You then may ask well why is this not more common on the internet. The reason why self hosted autoresponders are often frowned upon is because of the maintenance. People who typically purchase self hosted autoresponders purchase them to avoid monthly fees.
That being said major email providers such as gmail, yahoo, and hotmail at times will make changes to their emails and when this happens or the instant this happens a self hosted autoresponder might become obsolete. If not obsolete emails sent by the self hosted autoresponder might either be flagged or sent to the junk folder buy default.
Another bad thing about self hosted autoresponders is if you get reported for spamming. lets just say one of your subscribers feel is like being an a**hole and clicks the “spam” or “phishing” button on their email well this one spam complaint may in fact effect all your emails sent with that particular email provider which can severely hurt your business and your sales. This being said if you have a double opt in list and follow the rules you should be fine.
